signed Chapman steering wheel

PostPost by: phillipcoombs » Wed Dec 05, 2012 5:39 am

I've seen it mentioned numerous times that Elan has signed wheel. Wheels appear the same signed or unsigned. Did Colin get writers cramp and only sign some and not others? Is there any other difference?

He discovered that his pen was lighter without any ink in it, so he emptied it.

Then he discovered that it was not contributing, so he binned it.

I have a nice and chunky Motolita steering but I would like to find one signed steering wheel as it was when the car was deliverd by Lotus.

I undesrtood they are hard to find...and pricey!

Any hint where to get one of these?

Tonyw is correct, I have one with signature (1970) and one without (1968). The only difference is the engraving. I imagine it wouldn't be too hard for a professional engraver to copy the signature onto a plain wheel, assuming you could find one. I have a chunky motolita too, a much better wheel. It feels better in the grip and doesn't flex like an Elan wheel so it kind of makes the steering feel more - confident? positive? something like that.

Yes i confirm, the chunky motolita steering is very nice and offer a good grip to my hands. I just wish i had the original part  i would certainly hang it on a wall... the motolita feel is just perfect
