Steering Column Mounting Problems

Hello,
Has anyone experienced problems aligning the column (non-collapsible type) and fitting the binnacle to an early +2? I have recently fitted a new rack, UJ and felt bushes but the column doesn't sit where it should in order to fit the binnacle. I can push the column over so it's in the centre of the cut-out in the dash and tighten up the column clamps onto the body but the column ends up tight against one side of the hole through to the bulkhead. Is it just a simple case of elongating the hole in the bulkhead? Also there is about 5 or 6 spacers used above the column clamps where it bolts to the body, is this normal as I can only see two in the Lotus manual?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
It seems your rack pinion is not quite in the correct position relative to the chassis centre line. Did you by any chance use solid mounts with your new rack ?
Have a look at this thread........elan-f14/steering-rack-location-lhd-chassis-t25044.html
