Can anyone please point me in the right direction for a replacement Ignition switch as mine has now become very sloppy and hit and miss ?. Ideally a new barrel would be the best bet . The car was built in Nov 1972 . I have been to my local Moss Europe store and am unable to match the part with anything in their Triumph stock.
Many Thanks

Jim,
Have you tried either Paul Matty or Sue Miller?

Hi Jim
Your first call should always be to one of the Classic Lotus dealers, Paul Matty or Sue Miller for example. They might be able to help.
Unfortunatly I think you might struggle here. I managed to source one after a lot of effort but that was about 7 or 8 years ago. They were really hard to come by then
Sorry I can't be more positive

Hi, Elan Plus 2 1972 should be fitted with a Triumph steering column, the so called "collapsible" column with intergrated steering lock. You can remove the sheared off bolts (drill them out and gently use an "easy out") and then take the lock barrel and electrical switch part to a Triumph dealer, or look on the Holden website http://www.holden.co.uk/displayproducts ... s&pageno=6 and/or get their advice over the telephone.

I've just had the ignition switch fail on a 72 S130 and have just taken it apart. What you'll find is that the switch is a completely separate part from the steering lock itself and is held on the back by a small screw. The lock drives the switch by a metal lug which locates in a plastic slot in the centre of the switch. In my case the plastic slot had rounded out over time, giving the switch a sloppy feel and finally giving up completely - enough grip to turn to positions 1 and 2, but not enough to operate the starter when there is spring resistance from the switch at this point. So you may get away with just replacing the switch - the Lucas part number is 394150 and Paul Matty has them in stock.
Hope this helps
