Steering rack...

Just double checking before I buy, the close ratio rack off a triumph spitfire fits the +2? I did a topic search earlier and it seemed fairly conclusive with a bit of adapting.

Doug,
Without reading the attached thread (!), if I remember correctly, the Lotus part has lock stops added. The Triumph, (due to its very open wheel arches/bonnet) has a tighter lock than the +2 allows.

I've never looked at how it's achieved but you can probably re-use the parts of your own rack.

All the info regarding lockstops is in the workshop manual.

Hi Doug,

I was forced to change my +2 rack earlier this year and used a Triumph one.

Two things need to be done:

1. You need a sleeve fitted to the rack (as per manual) to limit the lock.
I used the sleeve from my original rack.

2. The arms on the Triumph rack are a good bit longer than the +2 ones.

Opinion is divided as to whether you can/should shorten and rethread the Triumph ones.....

In other words.

Yes, a Triumph rack will work.
But...it's not a straight switch...

Best of luck,

I spoke to Miles Wilkins a while ago about this and the problem with re threading is that the original thread is a rolled thread and therfore the arms are too small in diameter to cut the correct thread with a die. Go to the usual suspects and get a recon, they are cheap enough and you will have the correct part.

I was after a quick rack/competition hence the spitfire from moss, and was prepared to do the mods. The spitfire rack length is 41.25 inches. Do other suppliers do quick rack/competition versions for plus 2s?
