Anyone know what this steering column brace attaches to....

....on top?
When I pulled it off to reverse my directional/hi-beam stalks, I noticed that the top section seemed to be generally uncommitted.
I see how the grove in the bottom holds the cable enclosure and eventually 2 screws will hold the dash on at the center, but there's a purposeful-looking notch on top that does not seem to mate up to anything on my car.
Any suggestions?
Thanks fellas.

Hi Gino
That's not my wheel, I only have the wooden S2 wheels, not the leather covered ones. you can thank Mark for the photo of the front view, my photo is of the back side...
Gary
p.s. my wooden wheels live in the livingroom for now

Chris,
I took this picture for reference when changing the dash panel in my car, and you can see the bracket to the right. From memory this bracket located nicely on the outer column tube.
The position of this bracket is important in that it is a location for the dash panel with the two small screws and one large screw that fit between the speedo and tacho, and is the only vertical fixing for the column.
There is nothing very clever about this bracket ? it is simply clamped to the tube by the ?U? bolt bracket, and the dash panel screwed to the bracket. My only problem was holding the nut in position for the large top screw.
