Door seal repair?

PostPost by: Grizzly » Wed May 06, 2015 12:54 pm

Hi all.

To make a long story short....... When i got my Elan it had the original door seal on and the doors fit really well, problem started when i had to remove the seal to paint the car and the metal gripper (not sure what there called) that's molded into the seal had rusted away so there was large area's that it just separated / fell out so i replaced it (which is a whole other can of worms)

I dug the seal out today, after carefully laying it out and weighing it up the Rubber apart from a couple of nicks etc looks in decent condition. So i started thinking if i took one of my bad fitting new seals and cut the Metal gripper out of it then bonded it into my old seal it might work?? So before i go wrecking my old seal i thought i'd ask to see if anyone else had tried to fix a door seal? i can't say i have ever had to think about it on another car as things like this have always been readily available.

Be good if it could be fixed well enough to use, the Doors are driving me mad at the moment.

Hi,
I thought the same thing when I removed my +2 seals - the rubber looks okay but the gripper bit is toast.
It was obviously bonded on originally so it can be bonded on again. There is a place in brum that would or could do that - I will try and get there soon and ask - good question

Regards
Steve
