MacGregor and Rubber

Okay, I need rubber parts and I've emailed MacGregor in Canada 3 times, and tried calling with no response. I did talk to him once, and he was very nice, but said his prices were very out of date and they don't take credit cards. I was supposed to send him a list, which I did, but no response on current prices or shipping.
I'm done with trying, and would like suggestions on the best alternative here in USA. Does Dave Bean have the seals? I haven't called them yet, only because my last dealing with ordering hardtop seals from them. They had what I needed but good God they were expensive! Must be some sort of proprietary rubber
I'm also okay with ordering from a supplier overseas so if anyone has a suggestion for getting the correct rubber seals (doors, trunk, windshield frame to body, etc.) I'd appreciate it. I haven't tried JAE yet either.
Will wait for any response before calling Bean or JAE.

I bought some last year from MacGregor and some from Ray at rdent.com. The shop that installed the windshield didn't like the one from MacGregor as it needs to be mitered and wanted one that was one piece, which Ray carries. The door seals from MacGregor are the bulb type and definitely push the doors out more than the original. Ray has the flap type, which I think might be better. I am sure Ray carries the trunk seals, so I would give Ray a call. Dan

Thanks Dan I will. The most important ones I need are the window fuzzy strips (both sides of window) and the window channel U shaped strips. I do need the others as well. I would think the fuzzy stuff is pretty generic but I'm not sure. If it is I guess you can get them almost anywhere.

Russ, I carry the u-shaped fuzzys for the door windows. The front one is flexible and the rear is rigid. They are a little snug on the glass when new. I've thinned out the fuzzy by running a screw driver blade up and down in the u shaped channel. I've sold a bunch of them without complaints. $30 a pair front and $30 a pair rear. RD has some good fuzzys that go along the top of the door inside and outside.

Make sure and get a new set up clips to hold the fuzzies in. The old will be rusted or break on removal. I think Ray has them, or Frank might, or I have some left over. Also, make sure to get new clips for reattaching the rods that control the door lock. Same problem. They are the hardest part of the job. Good Luck. Dan

Kurt,
Kelvedon has the hard top to rear deck seal. See RACEHTS01 here:

Thanks Dan for the clip information. I have no fuzzy clips at all so will order them.
Nomad,
Bean has the hardtop seals as well. The rear seal he sells is exactly the same as the front hardtop to windshield frame seal. Now I don't know what is correct or not, but they do seem to fit (not installed yet). The rear glass seal on the hardtop is the same as the rear coupe' seal.

Russ,
Mcgregor typically shows up at the local shows, is located in Dundas Ont. last I knew.
The rear trunk seal he has is not correct for an S2 but (I do not want to criticize, only inform), I am not sure of any source for it but would be interested if there is one.
Looks like, in cross section, an "n" with an "O" touching the side of the "n" but no reinforcing, just soft rubber. Unfortunately I discarded my beat up original, the reinforced one warps the trunk lid as others have identified on this site; I tried cutting and tweaking to no avail. He does have the correct S2 door seals, again no reinforcement, (and the trim bit for the fiberglass edge) although admittedly I have not yet fitted the ones I purchased a few years ago(!) (which hasn't been an issue, my doors fit very close.).....

I don't think Lotus ever got all the weather seals right on the Elan, and certainly not on the type 26. The door seals are poor and the trunk seal is probably worse. The MacGregor trunk seal is simple, symmetrical, and effective, a much better solution IMHO, but not original.
