26R Type Rear Sill Mounted Air Duct Scoops.

Has anyone got a close up picture of the 26R air ducts,
the type that attach to the lower sills just in front of
the rear wheel arch.
And what is the ducting arrangement to the rear brakes
or diff, which ever they are set up for?
Because if holes are cut through this area it will intersect
where the metal reinforcing frame is and also the outer/lower
seat belt mounting point.
(A detail hand sketch would be help full).
Trying to decide between under body air scoop, or side air
scoops.... sill mounted items look pretty neat.
Any ideas out there.

Hi Col, I've got a duct, it does as you note go into the sill area with flexible pipe that runs up to above centre of the diff nose piece, so requires battery t be moved on S1 or S2. It was added to 26R's which had mag rear housing and aluminium nose pieces ( I gather some may even have had Mag nose pieces).
My 26R from factory had an oil cooler with pump fitted under the spare wheel area of the boot with inlet into the filler hole and additional outlet immediately behind the crown wheel which assisted in return of the oil, as the car was bought for long distance races like Lakeside Endurance races in mid 60's.
Most S3, S4's had a diff scoop under passenger (RHD car) that directed air up to passenger side of the Diff.
With todays oils having improved out of sight from period unless you were doing 6 hours races or like I think it would be redundant.

For street use I would think they are not needed just as Vaughan has said. In 1997 I did a drive from Indianapolis to Boston (900 miles) in 16 hours with temps in the 80's(F) and the driver was suffering more than the diff. This was a stock iron 3.77 diff in alloy case so take it for what it was. I believe I have read here on the forum that in the day the scoops were used due to the fact that they were using Shell hypoid oil in the 26r. Maybe someone knows the story much better than I do can offer a link.

Thanks Vaughan & Garry... this just a bit of a whim, there was quite a discussion
some time back about the under body air scoops, and was thinking about
doing something similar...but I guess it is not really required as you say
with modern oils, it will be one less job I will have to attend to.
Thanks.

I doubt if needed, BUT you are right they look the business.
It took a while for me to get the courage to drill the holes for the screws for my TTR side scoop - and no there is no hole for the duct tube at this stage! But looks the part.
