Best Vinyl Repair Product?

Can anybody suggest a good vinyl repair product for seats / soft trim? I've just bought an Xtreme Vinyl Repair kit with the little pad that you heat - absolutely useless and at ?15 a waste of money!
I've looked up some earlier posts on this and wonder if there are any more up to date products folks have used.

I've had pretty good success with the kits that contain different colors that are mixed and then heated under a pattern with a heating tool. Make sure that you back up the area with cloth, use the adhesive to build up the area and take your time. The match can be quite good and the repair is fairly durable if in a flat area. Sold in the US under lots of different names, all seem to be the same.

We get a number of seats repaired at work for minor tears / Burns etc, as long as you get the right colour / Gloss level and the repair isn't on a contact area they can look good / last a long time....... BUT!! if it was me and the Vinyl was available i'd just replace the panel (with that said though i've never done a Lotus Elan seat so i couldn't tell you how hard it would be to source the correct vinyl)
If you do end up looking for the vinyl this is a good place to start http://www.aldridge.co.uk/
