heater hoses

PostPost by: a d price » Tue Apr 16, 2013 10:39 am

I would like to change the heater hoses on my 1969 s4 as they look a bit perished. I am wondering if this is going to be a bit of a fiddle . Does the dash have to come off? Has anybody had experience of this job or any tips
Thanks

I've changed the RHS one on mine. It is a little fiddly but is made easier by removing the steering column. I also changed the section in the car to a bent tube as I found the steering column clamp was rubbing and wearing the rubber hose.

I just did this a few months ago and the dash certainly doesn't have to come off.The exhaust side hose is straightforward as the stub on the heater matrix is easy to get to - just take the under dash trim off and you can get to it. The carb side is a bit more tricky and I started taking loads of bits out to get to the heater outlet but fortunately stopped short of removing the steering column. In the end I think I had the speedo, tacho, radio and ashtray out as well as removing the under dash trim just to try and see what I was dealing with, but in truth most of it was unnecessary - you just need to follow the old hose along with your double jointed arm. :D As Europatek says, watch out for the hose run along the footwell when you put the new one in and make sure it doesn't catch on the steering clamp.

I did mine recently, i took the under dash trim off, the radio out, and the glove box insert out after that it needed a little patience but was not difficult.
