Door latch repair

PostPost by: alaric » Sun Jul 04, 2010 9:27 pm

Hi all. Further to my post re breaking my rh door latch, I've taken it to pieces and managed to straighten out the plates and lever. It now work very nicely. I had to drill out a rivet to split it, and this rivet is also the pivot pin for the ratchet that holds the door shut. It is stamped 4472 on the end, has a 1/4" diameter over most of its length which reduces to 3/16" at the end where it goes through the plate on the back of the mechanism. Here are a couple of pics. Does anyone know where I might find one of these - actually two would be good. Thanks in advance. Sean.

Hmm, you might need to get them made up on a lathe.

Make sure a strong steel is used as falling sideways against the door could shear a weak one & you or you passenger could fall out.

Door latch assembly is same as used on Austin Maxi and Allegro. As I have just replaced my LH lock.

Graham you are a star. I've been trying to find out from the archives which one it was. I'll start hunting for suppliers of Maxi and Allegro parts. I was sure it was a BL part but was looking at the mini. If you could let me know where you bought the part that'd be great.

Thanks for the help.

Sean Where I got mine from is no help to you unless you are really desperate. I live in New Zealand and we have a vehicle wrecker Horopito Motors about 8 km away. If you do get stuck let me know and I will send one.

Crikey. ok. I've hunted round the web and can't find anything that looks similar at the moment. I'll keep looking.

All the best

I believe they were the original manufacturer. I doubt they currently offer this part but may be able to help.

Thanks Bob I'll give them a call tomorrow. The website looks very promising - they've got a latch that looks very similar.

All the best.

Hi all. Finally got a replacement latch assembly, from Dave Adkins, installed and it's working very nicely now - very gently closing and opening action with a lovely clunk. This evening I managed to lock myself out of the driver side of the car having fitted the window. Luckily the passenger door is still an empty shell.

Regards.

Hi Sean,

I am facing the same issue on my Sprint - how can I contact Dave Adkins?

Many thanks,

Found it - will pm it to you.
