Vibration with solid driveshafts - solved

This is not a query but information for anyone curious.
When I had my S3 Elan rebuilt I retained the donuts, but discussions with my local Elan guru persuaded me to change to TTR sold ones. Immediately I noticed a worrying speed dependant vibration. Of course I thought it was something serious, but happily it turned out to be slightly out of balance rear wheels. It seems that the donuts absorb these vibrations and so when you "go solid" they become apparent.

Hi
That is interesting. Its worth having wheel balance checked as a first port of call for any vibrations. I'm glad it was an easy fix/win for you!
All the best

Zetec+ 2 under const, also 130S. And another 130S for complete restoration. Previously Racing green +2s with green tints. Yellow +2 and a couple of others, all missed. Great to be back 04/11/2021 although its all starting to get a bit out of control.

More than a decade ago I had TTRs sliding splines fitted to my +2 with his droop limiting shocks. They ran fine for 99% of the time, but one tight off camber up hill bend would always make them vibrate. Not normally a problem but it was on my way to work.. I ended up having to take another route, never solved it..
Bit off topic I know..

Hi
That’s literally taking the long way round a problem. Lucky you only had the one!
