Differential out of alignment

Hi Members,

I've just finished installing the differential in my new Spyder +2 chassis. I noticed that the differential is not centered so that the pinion faces down the middle of the chassis. It is off to the right and despite slackening off the fasteners I've been unable to swing the differential to the left to center it. Any ideas?

Mike,

I hope someone with more knowledge can help here, but I believe what you show is correct. If I remember correctly the design of the differential puts the crown wheel and pinion to the right hand side, and the prop shaft is offset to the right.

The nose of the differential does not align directly down the center of the chassis if all is as it should be. It should be somewhat to the (vehicle) right side of center. However it should be parallel with the centerline of the chassis. Your photo makes is look somewhat skewed.

I’ve just put the differential in my S4. It’s offset to the right as in your photo so all is correct. Remember universal joints need misalignment to give good service life. They do not like zero misalignment.
