Diff drain plug thread size

I've been struggling to remove the drain plug from my diff. The hex is already chewed up and a socket slips off before undoing. So I'm going to have to really go for it and it won't be worth putting back!
Can anyone tell me what size the thread is so I can hopefully get a steel replacement before I destroy the original.

We did that on here earlier this year I think, so a search should throw it up.

I am pretty sure that the drain plugs on the diff are standard domestic plumbing parts, so you can probably get a new one at places like B&Q


Here's one old topic that says they are standard 3/8 plumbing plugs.

This one says it is 1/2" BSP

Just back from the plumber's merchant's. Indeed, AHM, it is a 1/2 BSP plug with an 18 mm hex head. The drain was an 8mm plug apparently. Two of each and fibre washers, ?6.

Thanks Bill . I been searching for ages and not found these threads. I know mine has 1/2" hex so doubt it's 1/2"bsp expect it's 3/8 then.

The fill, breather and drain plugs are 1/2, 3/8 and 1/4 BSPP, respectively.
