Two wires going to +ve coil terminal - how to differentiate?

PostPost by: Steve S2 » Mon Jul 02, 2012 3:05 pm

Hi,

Per my post yesterday, I've lost the diagram that I drew of my coil wiring that I made before I disconnected the three wires that connect to it. Yes, I know - very stupid

The car's a '72 Elan Plus 2S/130 - negative earth.

There are two wires coming out from a loom, via connectors, in the engine bay. Both connect to the +ve terminal of the coil. What is each wire for and how do I differentiate them? The wires are the same colour.

I presume that one of them must go 'live' when the ignition is switched on with the key, at which point the LT ignition circuit is "primed".

The other wire... well I'm not clear as to whether it's specific to starting the car or is just for the rev counter.

I've poured over an Elan Plus 2S wiring diagram and it's guarding its secrets rather too well, and my workshop manual is none to specific on this topic

The car is basically original, so still on mechanical distributor with points, condenser etc.

Thanks

Steve
