Pair of Donuts

PostPost by: elanfan1 » Sat Aug 07, 2010 5:27 am

Stupidly I recently sold a full set of new old stock donuts and wouldn't you just know it i now find myself needing a spare pair urgently.

Can anyone in the UK please give me a call if you have 2 new old stock with bands still on Donuts that you can let me have asap please?

Why do you want NOS? With rubber components, the rubber can harden and fail and I would have thought that the newer the better with Donuts?

Just new will do as long as they have the bands still on - NOS is just an all too common phrase I guess.

As I understand it the rubber formulation used in recent production doughnuts is said to be not as long lasting as the older stuff so while NOS doughnut rubber may suffer from a bit of storage oxidation they're still a better bet than the new stock.

I've no idea whether that's the case but I have my own test in hand at the moment as this time last year (roughly) I put in two NOS doughnuts on the drivers side and two modern ones on the other side. So far (far being about 4k miles) both seem to be lasting equally well but we'll see how things go.

The only real useful function of the steel band is to indicate that the doughnut is unused, because it is far, far, better to replace it with three big screw hose-clips (jubilee clips) when fitting it as those let you adjust the diameter precisely to fit & you can adjust in 3 convenient places.

But sorry, I don't have any. I bought my most recent ones from Christopher Neil's.
