Is there a difference between +2 and + 0 seats?

Hi there

Can anyone tel me what the major differences are between the early +2 seats and the +0 seats that lok very similar in pictures?

What is the point of your question?

The seats in my car are 18.5? wide x 24? high (measured at the back). I would have expected the +2 seat to be bigger, but looking at some old publicity data they appear basically the same.
However, some of the publicity pictures show the later LHD +2 with head restraints ? I don?t see any baby Elans with head restraints.

I intend to get my seats recovered sometime over the winter months ? maybe with head restraints.

The +2 seats are wider and those with built in headrests (very similar to the type 45's seats,) seem to be designed to push through the headliner when tilted forward for rear "seat" access. There were probably seven or eight Elan seat variations.

I am looking at buying a pair of new seats for my +2 and I want to be sure that I buy the right ones as the early +2 and the +0 seats look very similar. I will check the measurements of mine against the measurements you have given.

IIRC the runners are different but the seat part is essentailly the same.

Andy...the seat is wider for the Plus 2, and they are very different underneath...as steveww says, the Plus 2 has the subframe mounting, whereas the 2 seater sits directly on the floor secured by its frame at the front.

You won't make a mistake...Plus 2 seats fetch about ?100 a pair in good fettle, and anything as low as ?20 a pair with some defects. 2 seat Elan seats go for ?300 plus a pair if good, and even ?200 if needing recovering.

Seems daft as the early Plus 2 seats are far more rare , but they are still being broken.
