For those who prefer the gears. We are going to a four-tier system. Which gear do we drop?
1st => 2nd => 3rd => 4th
or
1st => 3rd => 4th => 5th
Do we drop the 2nd or 5th?
Inquiring minds want to know.
5th gear, I feel, Jeff.

I would stay with the gears designation with new system 4 levels. Does the new system then assign the level automatically based on historical activity but using the new criteria or do you roll over the current gear ranking in the old system but merge a couple to make only 4 ?

The new system starts afresh with some consideration of existing activity that can be migrated.
The migration utility assigned anyone with less than 20 posts as a newbie. The utility assigns everyone else as a Tier 1 or a 3rd gear.
If you keep your regular activity levels you will move up to 4th gear within 20 days. And then 5th gear within 50 days.
The trade off of better everything will more than make up for temporary dip in rankings.
We haven't even discussed the better private message system.

Hello Everyone
Here is a video showing two different things:
1. Day one - How to reset your password to login for the first time.
2. What does the user control area look like? There are a lot of new features. This will provide a quick overview of them.

Is ones idea of what’s correct and incorrect are accepted, and rewarded.
Seems to me, social status is the new thing here then.
It’s not easy, but, at least if you post, your idea can grow.

On the video demo it says "this topic will automatically close in a year". Is that an optional feature in the new system? Many of the current popular topics have existed for many years, e.g. owner restoration topics. Will it mean that next time a newbie asks "how to jack up an Elan" it will mean starting yet another new topic rather than revisiting one from 18 months ago that they found using the topic search facility?

A couple of comments about closed topics:
- This closed date is based on the last update to the topic. The clock is reset every time a person responds to the topic.
- The topic can be read and searched for. A member cannot reply to the topic after it is closed.
- Topics can be re-opened by requesting it.
I will cover the multiple posts on the same topic in a coming video.
