Another question, is the casing that holds the front oil seal at the front of the box the same for both the large and small input shall bearing?

I believe so, mine (now) has a spacer in the nose housing to hold the narrow bearing in place (shown in the parts manual). I'd guess the bigger bearing protudes into the housing and doesn't need this spacer.
If it needs shimming the size nicely aligns with mini diff shims I found out.

Hi,
Here is a picture of the Elite from bearing (a bit grubby) but is this the bigger bearing?
Also I have the numbers of both boxes and ideas what they signify?
Thanks again
Mark

So, here we go again, this time gear lever.
So from the article by Hollnagel it looks to me as thought he has use a four speed (S4/Sprint) gear lever and bush. it am I correct or maybe I'm missing something. I saw Alex Blacks version but that may be difficult for me to do.
Any suggestions so the Elan looks sock and changes well?
thanks
Mark

it is correct as far as I understand...
standard disclaimer : the fine fettling can be more finicky than it seems (depending on how heavy is the shifting on the given gearbox etc), to avoid the lever rotating (either at the rubber : mine was a poor repro paid top ££ but imported from far away, and I had to improve the bonding between the rubber and the sleeve), or to get adequate guidance without being solidly bolted onto the shaft which transmits vibrations (the top and bottom washers had to be precisely sized on mine: about 1/10mm of radial play would achieve that).

Thank you Nic, appreciated. Do you happen to have any measurements for the gear lever, i.e. where you cut the original etc.
thanks

This is the crankshaft spigot bush for a 4 bolt crank sold by QED, so does anyone know if this will sit tightly in the flywheel. Not too bothered about the bore as I can probably get that machined to the correct bore.
Thanks

I'm not sure I've replied, and my car is still a good hour away... but from what I recall I had first removed from the original Plus2 gear lever the top bell and rubber, then there was a step above the bottom spring rubber (or did we machine it? and possibly use a small section of tube like on your photo...) to stop the bushing via a thick washer of sort, and not a whole lot of room above that to fit the collar of the anti-sizzle part, so just threading about 1cm for a nylstop nut.
I'm sorry I don't have a side view at hand, but these are the photos during the installation (that was a long day at a friend's place: engine swap + annular clutch adaptation which included some lathe and mill work, small mods along the way including chassis clearance for TTR exhaust fitting and welding tow eyes front and rear, then get everything back on to leave in the evening):

Just a thread bump here...
Was speaking to the owner of a Sprint fitted with a 5 speed box, he told me that the bite point of the clutch fitted to his car had was very low and literally on the floor. He wasn't certain if this was a worn clutch. So can any other 5 speed users confirm this low bite point?
Also I need the pivot pin/bolt assembly and a spigot carrier that fits in the flywheel, anyone have these for sale? Alternatively and machinists on here who would be willing to make me the bush, will gladly pay obviously.
thanks

No fundamental reason for a low bite point on the Lotus 5 speed arrangement. It could just be bad adjustment, or poor bleeding or a worn clutch plate or wrong components used in the assembly if converting from a 4 speed i.e. pressure plate, thrust bearing, thrust bearing carrier are all different for the 5 speed.

Normal complaint against the 5 speed clutch is that it is heavy. I don't remember hearing anyone else complaining about bite point. Mine has normal bite point height.

@rohan, mbell... thanks for the replies appreciated
@greg not received your PM?
So anyone with the extended pivot or spigot housing they wish to sell?
many thanks
