Spyder Driveshafts

Thank you Neil and Tony.

I have 2.5 mm thick spacers on the rear only. They are not making contact with the spokes on the hubs and all looks ok with the studs. I have refitted the original Lotus alloy wheels to see if the Minilites are the problem but have yet to take the car out again. Interestingly when tightening the Lotus wheels there is far more "give" when hammering the spinners on. Maybe the steel centre ring is not fitted so accurately or the different alloy allows some compression? As mentioned before it is not easy to strike the spinner positively whilst protecting the Minilite spokes and there is less movement on the spinner after taking up the slack, than with the Lotus wheels. I did check the effective thickness of both types of wheel and found the Minilites to be 3 mm thicker from face to front of spinner.

I've spent some more time underneath checking tightness and clearances. The diff mounting bolts did take about 1/8 turn with an 18" extension on the socket, whilst wedging a spanner on the nuts below the tank. The silencer is making some contact with the heat shield but I wouldn't expect that to give the symptons experienced.

Hoping to try the car next week.
