Performance Unlimited Driveshaft U/Js'

My car has been fitted with a pair of solid driveshafts with U/Js' either end which I think were made by a company called Performance Unlimited. I am trying to find out what part number a suitable U/J would be. Could it be a standard part as fitted to the prop shaft or are there lots of different sizes?

Hi William. There are quite a few places the drive shafts could have come from. The U/J's are unlikely to be anything special. Maybe Midget , Spitfire or even MGB. I would take some measurements off one and have a look online. I am sure you can match what you have . Cheers, Lyn.

Mine have easily removable U/Js at both ends , not welded, but running on a spring loaded splined shaft

P.S.
I've used them for years on my Plus2 and they're A1 , but not recommended for the "smaller" Elan..

I would measure them or take the drive shafts to a drive line specialist to get the correct replacement parts. They are not likely to be prop shaft joints, remember that they will need to handle three to four times the torque of a prop shaft joint spending on your final drive ratio. It is possible that they are they same size that current suppliers such as TTR use in their 26R-style output shafts.

William,
If I have the name correct, IMS(international marketing services) are a drive shaft company in Perry Vale Birmingham. They made a prop shaft for me last year. In conversation they told me they make the drive shafts for Tony Thompson. I expect they can do what you need.

I checked the TTR axles I have for my +2 this afternoon and confirmed that the u-joints for the axles are larger than those used in the prop shaft. I can't say whether TTR and Performance Unlimited used the same size u-joint but i would not be surprise if they did. The TTR axle u-joints are Spicer 1310 size having bearing cups of 1.063" outer diameter and distance across the bearing caps of 3.220". The prop shaft u-joints are Spicer 1100 size with corresponding dimensions of 0.938" and 2.410". Of course both u-joint types are manufactured by many different companies. The photos show a replacement supplied by TTR for their axle system.
