Top diff mounts - are they usually this difficult to get to?

I have the diff out and thought I may replace the top mounts - are they normally this difficult to get to ?

That's pretty much the deal I'm afraid.

When I built my car I fitted TTR diff mounts on the basis that they ought to last forever and so save this task in future. So far so good and they don't seem particularly harsh.

Hi, that looks normal and should be able to get them out without to much trouble but from photos they look okay ?

I have now replaced top diff mounts with Kelsport heavy duty race mounts and have the diff back in place after breaking a drive shaft so fitted Tony Thompson solid steel ones.

I have not yet tightened the top mount bolts or the torque rods. Is there a correct sequence - i.e. tighten diff top bolts first and then tighten torque rods ?

I have always fixed the top mounts to the chassis. Then fitted and bolted up the dif to the mounts, then fitted the tie rods. I cannot imagine doing it any other way.

That's the only way! Fixing nuts are welded to the underside of the frame...

Yep, that's the way I did it initially although I later fitted a brace to the diff so only undid the top mountings to do that and had no problems. Just check the clearance between the bottom of the diff housing and the chassis when you fit the diff brace, you may need thinner washers or in my case I machined 1.5mm off the tube through the mounting as I only had one washer fitted originally so couldn't remove that altogether.
