Racing Rubber Donut Question

PostPost by: Fred Talmadge » Thu Oct 06, 2016 6:45 pm

I wonder if the donuts used on vintage racers is any different than we get from our normal suppliers.
If they are will they work on a street Elan?

nobody who's right in his mind thinks he'll win because of the 1st 1000ft - with donuts it won't be U, but later on it could be U, because the difference is skill and ?????????????? good night folks sandy, a driver of the world's finest car - as mr buckfield just said!

Hello Fred,

The donuts sold at Pegasus are the same as those for our Elans. However, they are not the original design of the bolt inserts. The original inserts were solid steel molded into the rubber. The bolt inserts now are folded sheet steel that are molded in. The folded inserts may start to collapse from the applied torque on the bolts and then the bolt fails from cyclic fatigue.....

Regards,
Dan

The original much better quality donuts where insufficient for repeated racing drop the clutch starts. I ripped up the chassis on both the PLus 2 and Elan doing that 30 years ago which is why I changed to Cv's back then.

I dont think I would put these in a serious competition car.

cheers

I still see donuts on vintage racers. Maybe it's part of the rules and they probably replace them often. Which is why I ask as that will be the winter project for me.
