mail order supplier of UNF and UNC in the UK (or continent)

PostPost by: tzar_of_pushrods » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:05 pm

Hello,
I am looking for a place to order UNF nuts and bolts. I'm in Switzerland but I'm looking all over Europe. A Goggle search turned up NAMRICK and not much else, but I looked them up and was disappointed by how small their selection is. In particular I'd like to replace a number of nuts and washers with SS hardware (not the bolts, for strength).
I used to live in the US and we had McMaster (http://www.mcmaster.com/#) and that was like Nirvanah.

Cheers

Francois

Have a look at http://www.wrightsautosupplies.co.uk/ I've always considered them to be a bit cheaper than Namrick and have maybe a wider range.

Hi Fran?ois

There are quite a few e-bay shops in the UK which do a good selection of UNF UNC fasteners in stainless steel. Enter ebay.co.uk and do a search for the sizes you want.

One word of caution though. While you are obviously aware that stainless fastners should not be used in high strength applications, do consider that, on occasions, when someone is working on a car they may non always replace nuts and bolts in the same place thay came from. That's the reasion car manufactures always use high tensile bolts for everything and, if for any reasion a extra high strength is required, it will usually be a non preferred size.

I've used these people in the past. They seem to have a good range from what I remember

Well there you go, after 35 years in automotive manufacture, I didn't know that.

I wonder where the millions of 8.8 grade (UK) fasteners went, then?

A2 SS fasteners fall a little short of the 8.8 grade performance standard, but are more than adequate for all applications apart from internal engine and transmission applications or where special fasteners are used in our Elans.

I also use Roy's source http://www.a2stainless.co.uk/shoppingcartpage.aspx as it has a wide range of fasteners and I always get next day delivery. And parts will be tax free for Switzerland.
