Driveshafts

Would I be right in thinking that the dimensions of the driveshafts from a 1969 Elan Plus 2S are the same as those from a 1973 Plus 2 130/5 model?

Hi

I believe the only difference between the early and later driveshaft is the failsafe pins on the later cars.
Some people say the diff output shafts are stronger on the failsafe cars?

Most unlikely. The 4 speed box from 1969 is exactly 129mm longer than the 5 speed.

Pop round and see - I have both boxes sitting in the workshop at the moment.

I think the original posting was referring to the "half" shafts or drive shafts to each rear wheel not the tranny to diff "prop" shaft.

Its confusing as here in the U.S. I call a "prop" shaft a drive shaft and the drive shafts (to each rear wheel) half shafts.

I installed the Spyder shafts to my +2. They feature one CV joint and one rotoflex per side and are flail safe.

Stupid me - these senior monents are becoming more frequent. :oops:

Over the last few days I've had prop shafts on the brain.
