Hi,
Some better photos.
The rear bobbins on the silencer go directly into the boot floor and the rear mount is just a bolt with a large washer and approx 1/2" of rubber.
This is my attempt at keeping the exhaust as high as possible without anything dangling down - no U clamps etc
Regards
Steve

Nice design Steve. Do you have a shot looking from the rear to show how high it sits?
Cheers,
Will

Not exhaust related - but I see that you've strapped in your fuel tank. Is the tank standard or modified?
Any chance of a look please?
Thanks
Gavin

I had a Austin Healey 100-6 that had an exhaust hanger bolted to the floor. It got warm enough to burn my foot. I don't think I had a rubber pad, but in any case I'd pay close attention to it

Thanks for the reply Fred.
There is no sign of heat damage but the bolt doesn't actually clamp to the floor.
Regards
Steve

Steve,
I like your modifications.
Do you have a picture of the car from the rear with the box fitted? I always thought the standard arrangement looked like a dog's breakfast.
Thanks,
Andy.

Hi,
Pictures of fitted exhaust.
As it is fitted in the pictures it can go up approximately 10mm, so if the box gets hit from below it will move up 10mm
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve
A belated thanks for the fuel tank photo - the straps seem a sensible addition.
Coincidentally I have just swapped out my 2l zetec for the original twincam so that my son can drive the car without crashing (he’s only used to modern cars) and am just about to redo the exhaust system. My set up is different from yours because I am running a 5 speed Sierra box which places the exhaust lower than normal.
I am also using the TTR 2 inch system and having run their rear box for a while, can report that at higher revs it is quite loud so Im going to have an adapter made to allow me to run either the TTR box or this standard single pipe sprint box.
I compared the two visually and the TTR box is straight through whereas the standard box is just under 1 3/4 diameter with a baffle interfering with the flow (which I understand used to blow out the stuffing - so can’t be that great a design - probably cheap instead). I know that with the TTR box, my engine produces 150 BHP and 129 ft lbs. I guess that with the smaller box, I will trade BHP for ft lb but my plan is to get the car on the rolling road and compare the two.
Interested to know what you think of the TTR volume.
Thanks
Gavin

Hi Gavin
Regarding how loud, all I can say is it always got through scrutineering / noise test.
Having said that, it now has a new engine built by Craig Beck and I haven’t used it and probably never will as putting it back together to sell. It is still at 1600cc and runs at 183bhp which is a lot more than before – New SAS cylinder head, new pistons, new 45 carbs, cams etc etc
Regards
