Flexible exhaust systems

Hi
Since I'm very near to the stage of fitting my MCT box I was wondering if any owners have ever used flexible exhaust lengths.
Why ask- well the MCT box is a bit deeper than the Type 9 already in the car so I'm pretty sure the run of exhaust just behind the Y pipe will foul on the bottom of the box. I was thinking of fitting (temporarily) a short run of flexi- just good enough to be able to get the car to a custom exhaust manufacturer about 20 miles from me.
Any thoughts- feasible or is this stuff useless?

I spliced in a section of flexi-exhaust just before the silencer in an old monospace that I used for transporting stuff to the dump. Worked fine and is still working for the new owners - must have a couple of thousand kms by now.
It was stainless steel stuff that I bought from flexiducting.co.uk - they have a good range of diameters and good service. I imagine things are starting to cool down after the Y-piece. It's comforting to have a reasonable length of straight section to slide the flexi-stuff over - I imagine an inch minimum if the exhaust pipe is in good condition.
I used exhaust paste and mikalor clamps. I still have a bit of 46mm ID which you can have for the price of postage.

I think if you get the right flexible exhaust it is all you need and will last for ages. I have a Saab 93 that has it and it has worked well mines done over 200km. An extra bonus is when the exhaust gets hooked up on gutters I can just drive it of, so far with no damage a great advantage for a low sitting Elan.

There was a length of it fitted as std to the Lotus 7 I had before the Elan and it lasted many years. If it's fitted well I wouldn't have thought a 20 mile journey would cause any problems.
