Booming exhaust

Hi all
I get a lot of booming in the car which seems to be exhaust orientated at around 50 mph in top. In my previous elan +2 I did not experience this with a mild steel exhaust, could the SS system fitted to my present car be the cause.
I have checked the system and its fixings and clearance all is OK.
Anyone experienced this in elans

As if the S130 wasn't already loud enough!
SS exhausts ruined both cars I tried them on, including current Elan, and destroyed the refined character of the cars. The other car was a 205GTi which boomed like a Ford at low revs, previously quiet as night. I reverted to MS in both cases. Anyone want a SS Elan box and pipe, one careful owner?
Booming can be caused by all the exhaust mountings being taught due to the pipe being out of line, but don't bother to check that until you've got MS.
Are standard MS systems still available for type 26, I know a man who wants one?

I put a stainless system on my Sprint FHC. It was so noisy I had to wear ear defenders on motorways! When I complained, they said it would quieten down with a bit of use and a build up of carbon in it, but it didn't. I went back to mild steel.

Difficult to find mild steel silencers for early +2s (transverse).. Anyone know a source in the UK? When asked, the usual sources said there was no demand. MS does rot in UK climes - my last one (original Lotus, chrome tailpipe) lasted less than two years. The note from the current SS unit is harsher.
