stainless exhaust system

Years ago I purchased a Triple K exhaust system. I cannot find them on the net. Are they out of business or is my memory incorrect.

Who offers new stainless exhaust systems? UK? U.S.?

You weren't thinking of 'Double S' were you?

I have heard that some generic exhaust manifolds don't fit very well which is why Matty's had their own manufactured - might be worth making some investigation before buying one.

Yes Double S is the one. I had purchased an exhaust header and exhaust system from them.

I am located in the U.S. and there appears to be no one here that offers either Double S or other brands.

I need to get a stainless muffler and have the rest custom made at a shop here. I was hoping on a quicker solution.

i bought stainless manifolds from sjsportscars for my Elan Sprint and one part fowled the chassis side rail. maybe Paul Matty manifolds fit better.
it was a big problem for me because it was after i had torqued the head down and tried to fit the manifold that i discovered the problem.
a right pain in the butt!!!!!!
when you place the manifold at the side of the engine bay, put the head on loose first with bolts and no head gasket to check that the manifold doesn't touch the chassis. it's difficult to adjust a stainless manifold in place!!!!

Actually I had a problem with the exhaust header fouling the chassis. I have a Spyder +2 chassis. I trial fit the manifold to the engine as a rolling chassis. It was a simple task to heat the offending manifold tubes and bend them to afford proper clearance. I then had the manifold "Jet Hot" coated.

I assume there is no supplier of classic car stainless exhaust systems here in the U.S..

I bought a stainless exhaust system (intermediate pipe and muffler/tailpipe only) from Dave Bean a few years ago. I think it was an SS. I never fitted it (built up a custom system on a Borla muffler instead) so it's available. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send along more details.

Bob,

I just had an intermediate pipe made - 1.625" diamter 304 tube with an .063" wall . Total length 74.5" 15 degree bend at the point it meets the main chassis. I had the muffler - so that part still needs to be sourced. The SS tube was about $40- paid a muffler shop $5 to bend it for me.

I really don't think stainless steel is all that important. As far as the header/exhaust manifold goes I prefer mild steel and having it ceramic coated for longevity and as a heat barrier for the engine bay and slave cylinder. The rest of the exhaust system can be mild steel and painted with a high temp paint and it will last nearly forever. It's not like buying an exhaust system that has to deal with high temperatures and water like a cat equipped emissions controlled vehicle that sees lots of daily mileage.Our cars don't see snow/salt but just wet roads at the most and a hot exhaust system dries that right off. The mild steel versions can be lighter as well.

Picking up on Jeff's post a bit, IIRC Sue Miller recommends a steel muffler rather than SS; she considers the sound of the SS replacements to not be as pleasant. Not sure if you are after just the pipe & muffler portion. Anyway, I got a steel muffler from Sue (painted the end pieces with HT black). Two piece SS header from Dave Bean. Used the pipe that was there (think it is steel). Ceramic coated the header (well worth it). Added a locally sourced chrome tip for bling. 8) All fitted well, heat under hood is OK, and sounds OK.
