Exhaust gasket S3SE

Apparently the gasket between down pipe and the cast manifold (S3SE) is now obsolete, what else are other people using? is there a comparable gasket or making one up? from what material ?
It is also the same gasket used on the Europa TC with cast manifold.

When I was still using a cast iron manifold I just used to used Gun-Gum silencer repair paste as the 'gasket'.

Hi Brian,
Exhaust gasket material is available in sheets for about ?10. Several suppliers on ebay - Google "exhaust gasket material"

Hi Brian,
In workshop manual X036T0327Z, Lotus say NO gasket should be fitted, instead use Holts Firegum (a paste that sets hard).

Thanks for the feedback Guys,
Roger, I found a piece of exh gasket material in my spares so no problem there.
Peter, that interesting, I never bothered to look in the workshop manual :oops: ....just the parts list although I'm not sure the firegum is the answer as I have not had a great deal of success with it over the years, I do prefer a gasket as I consider the gum a bit of a bodge.
The flange was loose (only two bolts) and leaking badly, the hot gasses appear to have cut a "V" into the flange so I will try to get it brazed up and leveled.
It is a new stainless steel system (with mild steel flange) fitted about ten years then only +- 500 miles of use so I am loathed to discard it,
The problem seems to be that when the downpipe is bolted in place it rubs up against the chassis....probably why it was never tighten up correctly in the first place.
I am going to see if I can move the engine slightly over so the downpipe clears, it is also missing the spacer plate between the engine & bellhousing and there is no spacers on the gearbox mounting.
May be its just a badly produced downpipe and if that is the case I may have to fit the fabricated manifold which an other forum member kindly offered to help me with.

Can you not find a spring to fit inside temporarily and bend the pipe slightly to clear the chassis. Or cut it across, take out a triangular sliver and weld or braze it back so that it has a slight kink in it to clear the chassis.

I had thought about doing something like that but with it being S.Steel it becomes a bit more difficult then working with mild steel.
I suppose I could always "adjust it" a bit with a hammer but that would be a last resort not that you would see it :lol:
