Late plus 2 silencer

Hi all,
Is anyone running the original Peco round silencer? I have a late Plus 2 and would like to put back the original peco silencer, having had one before. I know they are no longer available and have read several old posts. Has anyone a NOS they would consider parting with and failing that could anyone supply me with some photos and a sketch showing dimensions as I may try to have one made.
I have tried to contact other members via a pm regarding this, but no reply's so far.
Many thanks, regards to all, George...

Not sure if these photos will help George, as I don't have the car any longer and didn't take dimensions. But at least others will know what you're talking about and may recognise that their car has one. They do look good when cleaned up and the rust removed.

Hi George,
just nipped down to the garage (christ it's cold!), and took some rough measurements, only had a steel rule but this is what I got:
Box is 34.5cm long and 16cm diameter. Flanges are 1.5cm deep. Tail pipe is 7.9cm diameter and 18.6cm at longest point, 15.4cm at shortest.
Hope this helps, here's some pics:

George, I also nipped down to the garage and took the following pics and dimensions of the silencer on my 1971 +2 S130. This is a stainless oval shaped unit quite different to Robbie693's but may be of interest. It is almost certainly not original but it does fit into the body recess a treat and in my opinion looks better than the round version. Dimensions for the box itself are 6.5"x3.5" in section and 14.5" long the inlet pipe is 2"dia and the tail pipe 2.5"dia x 6" long.

Same silencer as my 1973 +2 Richard.
Do you have issues with fumes in the boot?

Hi Peter,
not suffered so much with exhaust fumes in the boot on the Plus 2, changed the boot seal on one car and that cured it. for me its always been the slight smell of petrol fumes that's been the problem, have managed to decrease the smell, but not get rid of it completely. My S4 on the other hand has always had this problem and I tend to put everything in plastic bags that I put in the boot.... especially clothing.
I have been given some photos and dimensions of the Peco box, since you have one fitted any chance of details of how the rear of the box is hung / attached to the mountings, the front seems straight forward.
Many thanks, regards, George...

Hi George,
From memory there are two mounts one at opening end of the siilencer as per Richard's pic above and one at the other end of the silencer offset to one side. Both straight forward, though the set-up relies a lot on the centre pipe clamping to keep everything level/orientated correctly.
Will try and get some shots this afternoon.
I do the same thing - put clothing etc in plastic bags in the boot....
I think extending the tail pipe by a few inches may cure the problem. Will get around to it one day.....

Last year I fitted a genuine Lotus NOS oval silencer on my S130. I got it from a friend and it still had the original Lotus parts stickers on it. It has a longer tailpipe than the oval one it replaced and that has almost cured the exhaust fumes in the boot problem (its only about 2" longer but it does seem to make a difference). Only difference from the old one it replaced (apart from the tailpipe length) is that the tailpipe is in the centre of the oval and the pickup for the rear hangeris displaced to the left hand side of the tailpipe whereas the original had the hanger pickup centrally and the tailpipe offset to the right. I wonder how many variations on a theme they produced!

Hi George,
Not sure who you were replying to when asking for pics of the rear mountings but here's mine.
Difficult to photograph in-situ but it's just a T-shaped bracket welded to the pipe (and presumably the top of the silencer) with holes to accept those 'cotton reel' rubber mountings which fit through the body into the boot.
I'm missing a nut by the looks of it!
hope this helps
Robbie

Hi George,
Apologies for the delay.
Front (as in nearest the engine):
And rear:
Quality is a bit iffy but you should be able to see the general layout.
Let me know if you need more info.
