Need help with S4 exhaust

Hello folks. My S4 (1970, federal) came to me with an aftermarket exhaust, basically a very small cannister with short tailpipe. I don't know what the stock system is supposed to look like, but Dave Bean says it should be the 'Y' type that splits out to 2 cannisters, side by side. I'd be a little surprised to see that the 2 cannisters can fit in that channel that my current pipe fits into, but maybe it's true.
Also there's a cutaway along the driver's side of where the silencer would be that looks like it would accommodate a sideways-mounted silencer, but I hear this was only for the S1- S3 (??)
Can anyone provide me with a picture of what a stock S4 setup should look like, or just confirm the Dave Bean opinion?
This 'silencer' I have now was fun for a few days as I was playing Alain DeCadinet, but it's starting to drive me a little crazy now, and I think I'm losing some performance from loss of back-pressure (just a guess).
Thanks much ---
Chris

Can you describe what the sprint silencer looks like? Is there any reason it would not fit under the car -- is the Sprint physically different?

Chris;
I starting on my S4 muffler project. Found a muffler that has inlet.outlet on same side that should fit into the underside pocket and will finish up with a Stebro resonator tip. The muffler is Dynomax Super Turbo # 17675
with 2.25 ID inlet/outlet. It's available from Summit Racing. I made a cardboard mockup of the Dynomax to check for clearances. The muffler shell is 4.5X9.75X14. The outlet/inlet add 1.5"
I have been using a Borla stainless straight muffler and a generic tip, The Borla hangs too low but has a great sound.
I'll post more details as the project continues.

Both the twinpipe and the sprint exhaust will fit.The body moulding did not change.
I fitted a twinpipe as I liked the looks and sound. However the "rasp" does get a bit wearing and changed to the sprint silencer after a year.

Thanks guys.
Very, very helpful!
Bean has stock of the sprint exhaust, so I'll pick up one of those.
Thanks so much for those pictures, Brian.....

Further to this:
Does anyone know of a muffler that is intended for a different car but similar in dimensions to the standard Sprint single box?
I ask so as to avoid having to ship a muffler from the other side of the world.
Years ago I fitted one off a Datsun, ( as they were called at the time).
The model is long extinct, 180B from memory.
And you're right, the twin pipe is too bl**dy noisy.
Ralph.
