Cable clutch

Dear All,
I've just bought an S4 in need of restoration. I have an innate dislike of anything requiring (unnecessarily) brake/clutch fluid (inability to bleed such things and consequential effects on paintwork). I've also read about the undesirability of having a slave cylinder quite so close to hot exhausts - and I'd like to 'add lightness and simplify'.
As a result, I've searched here and have found posts about conversions to cable clutches when people have converted to MT75 gearboxes, but I was wondering if anybody had gone the cable route with the original gearbox?
Any pointers, comments or suggestions would be gratefully received ...
Many thanks,
Adam
