Clutch?

Hi all.

Does anyone know if the Clutch in a 4 speed Elan was acquired from the ford parts bins? or made specifically for the elan?

I bought a 2000e Clutch from a show a couple of years ago thinking as it was the same Gearbox they would have used the same clutch but even thought e Splines are the same the Friction plate is a bigger diameter.

Now i have the Lotus clutch out of the car i have the Borg & Beck part number 50047 but that's coming up as a Vauxhall Clutch and looking at the pictures the Splines look completely different. On the other side there is another Number which is quite hard to read but it looks like 53131 which doesn't come back with anything?

Somewhere in the back of my mind is that the clutch is same as a Rover 2000, please don?t take this as absolute but may worth a cross check with your number.

Bigger clutch and pressure plate from the base 1600cc Kent engine can be used as a replacement. Ford MK1 Mexico, 1300GT, RS1600, Twincam Mk1 Escort, Capri's OHV, MK2 Cortina, etc.
You may have a problem using the Clutch plate from one of these with the OEM elan pressure plate.

I've used a 5-main bearing MGB pressure plate (cover) since the 1970's. I've bought the Elan driven disc which works perfectly with it. The B cover has a release bearing plate for the MG's carbon TO bearing, but it works fine w/ the Elan's ball-bearing TO.
