been in dry storage a long while. surplus to my restoration needs as my own chassis was fine after shunt so i never needed it . so sorry no pics but they are on my iphone and it's dead at mo.thought i'd post this nonetheless shows no repairs and no need of them . original lotus black painted. could do with repaint

Where on the chassis is that stamping 'I 0981'?
You mentioned the chassis number 1830 in the title, are there two numbers?

Looks like 1860L to me, which would make it a late 1973 Domestic Plus 2S 130 frame.

1860L is on the Elan registry. Ask the owner if he wants his chassis back

The letter always goes last (after numbers), so 1860L it is (as Tim has already pointed out).
The numbers/letter are the end of the vehicle's id number. Wow, if I were the owner of that car, I would want that chassis, especially considering it looks in excellent condition (if that black paint is factory original, it seems very solid and usable). Hope he/she picks it up. I don't consider an original chassis to be excess parts/spares.
