Spyder products - any US distributors?

PostPost by: lotocone » Fri Oct 11, 2013 12:10 am

At one time I think there were a couple of US distributors of Spyder products. Maybe I'm way out of date, but I thought I would ask if any are left.

I'm thinking about getting a rollbar and maybe the adjustable suspension arms. Shipping from the UK won't be cheap. Maybe it won't be as bad if parts come to the US in bulk, then distributed in N. America.

Anyone know?

Thanks for any info.

Thanks Gus. I'll email them in the UK. I think there was a US east coast outlet at one time.

Spyder regularly export to the USA, anything from a wishbone to a complete rolling chassis/frame. Just email [email protected] they always do the freight charges at cost price no markup and are used to sending stuff around the world, including this to Australia http://www.spydercars.co.uk/spyder-zetec-elan-2-rolling-chassis-exported-to-australia/

I had Spyder ship two new sills for my +2 to Canada and the shipping was very reasonable.

I'd be curious to see what rollbar shipping to the US ends up costing. That's been on my to-do list for several years, once I knock down a few of the other higher-priority projects... and while it's easy enough to check the current cost and exchange rate to get an idea of the rollbar itself, the shipping is a big question mark for me.

I just had a spyder rollover/sill protection kit sent to Sydney. Was well wrapped, and arrived in a few days.

Suggest calling them not emailing ('nuff said!) and make the call early in their working day!

I arranged my own carrier through http://www.transglobal.org.uk/default.asp

Easy to get an on line quote, package was 110x110x30 cm and weighed 28kg. In my case was around ?305 door to door

Cost of shipping and import clearance at my end was nearly as much as the item itself!

Thanks for the info Robert. The high cost of shipping and import duty doesn't sound too good though.

Next week I'll try emailing Sean at Spyder as Alan recommended. If that doesn't work I'll try calling early.

I might be able to find out more this weekend if I see a local Elan owner who bought a rollbar from Spyder.
I'll post the info I get from him.

We used to stock Spyder components but years ago prices were adjusted and no with commercial discount included that killed any reason to stock anything again. Call/email Spyder directly and deal with the shipping expense/customs on your own. If its bulky try to have that shipped in someones container or consolidated airfreight.

Yes worth adding that Sean (very helpful fellow) said that they usually ship rollover kits in a makeshift wooden frame /crate. I asked him to stick to non-organic materials like bubble wrap, as I would undoubtedly incur a quarantine inspection fee / fumigation charge at my end if there was any chance of little critters hitching a ride. He wasn't keen, but I said I'd take the risk on any damage.

Sean at Spyder emailed today and said the shipping cost is ?290, which is nearly 40% of the cost of the rollbar and side impact bars ( ?775) . I looked at a FedEx website which estimated ?224 for "International Economy Shipping" which takes a little more time. I don't mind waiting but the total cost would be about $1600 US with no customs duty.

Working from memory, I think that the Safety Devices rollbar and side impact bars cost $1385 including shipping from New Jersey. I might go with that.

Oops, free shipping from this New Jersey company doesn't apply to larger products like this.

They sell the TTR rollcage not just a rollbar and side bars. http://www.stableenergies.com/Roll-Cage ... fo/SD-E01/

I'm not looking for a full rollcage , but I prefer getting a shipment over a much shorter distance to help prevent damage.

Hey Guys, I just came across this thread or I would have posted earlier. If anyone here in the US is interested in a Spyder roll over bar and/or the side intrusion bars I have used ones in great shape I will sell for a good price. I'm not sure what shipping would be, but it has to be way better than freight from England! Just send me a message and we can go from there.
