Painting the hood frame

Hi
Does anyone have any recommendations for painting the hood frame?
I painted mine last year with POR 15 and over sprayed this with Plasti-Kote.
Although it was left to dry for a couple of weeks the paint was to soft and stuck to the hood.
Could the frame be successfully powder coated? Or is there a paint that dries hard enough to take the pressure from a taught hood.
Thanks in advance
Mark

Powder coating is surely the neatest option.
I've had good past DIY experience with Hammerite.
It dries up well, even using a brush yields a neat coat of paint that is quite resilient. You can get many colours in cans and cannisters.
Only downside with using Hammerite is that it can't be repainted with other normal paints. I would not want to use it on the exterior but I've used it on the diff, front cross member, boot (trunk) and suspension parts when I restored my previous classic (1970 MGB).
Surely a hood frame would work as well

I must jump in here .......... with apologies to Leo please don't use hammerite on something visible on a classic car. It's garden gate paint
Powder coating is a good solution.
FWIW I used good old cellulose on my well prepared frame and am happy with the result. The other plus point is that if it does need prettying up in the future, a quick rub down and re-coat is all that's required. Simple and cheap (my mantra )

Hi Mark,
I did my one around 7 - 8 months ago. Make sure it is fitting properly before you do anything. Now is the time for any repairs etc. When done give it to a trusty powder coating company with the name of the gray (can't remember for the life of me) You should get a perfect result. My one was!
Good luck with it.

Hi
Thanks for the advice, I?ll look for a local powder coater.
I had replaced a couple of rivets and given the frame a good rub down before painting it the last time, one of the jobs that I had crossed of the list but have to revisit, as I want to get it right before fitting a new hood.
Thanks again
