New chassis

I've seen plenty of posts about replacing the chassis, but if one is so inclined, where does one buy a new Elan chassis from in the USA? thanks, Steve

At the time I bought mine, JAE had both factory chassis, and the TTR version.

Ray at RD Enterprises handles TTR parts in the US, he could probably get a TTR frame. I checked with Dave Bean a few months ago and they are not doing anything with either Lotus or Spyder. You can deal with Spyder in the UK directly, they will ship to individual customers in the US. I just brought in a Lotus replacement chassis for my +2 through Chris at Sevens & Elans.

FWIW I imported a frame directly from TTR about 18 months ago. They customized it to my specs, arranged shipping directly to my house, great to work with. Pound is very low now, so direct import from TTR or Spyder would be relatively cheap.

Just finishing up getting a Plus 2 chassis directly from Spyder delivered to western Canada. Sean at Spyder has been great to deal with by email, and he arranged all shipping from his end. Was going to report details when I got the box on the driveway...

Box just arrived today in Calgary bonded warehouse. Unfortunately I am presently stuck out of town in a blizzard in North Dakota, but I expect to get everything sorted next week.

One minor hassle is the shipper quoted (presumably to Sean) as a commercial shipment rather than as a private purchase or personal effects. This is causing a few problems with Customs clearance and local shipping to my driveway. The shipper assumed off loading equipment would be available for the box, and this is not the case at my home address. Also, customs brokers are not terribly interested in brokering private shipments anymore, so I am going to attempt Customs declaration and clearance on my own. I expect this difficulty could be avoided if mentioned up front to Sean when he is making the arrangements for shipment.

One other great thing about getting from Spyder is that Sean can pack a lot of other parts into the frame box, so I have got a lot of other stuff included with only one shipping charge. A bit of a warning though, the shipping costs are pretty dear. I suppose a US or Canadian dealer would have to have these costs included anyway though.
