Is it a +2 tank or custom made?
I quite like the idea of doing mine that way.
When the car was last on the road I had a rather large battery in that space but the tank would be better there.
A chum of mine was side swiped behind the rear wheels a long time ago. The rear of the car from the diff back went spinning down the road complete with the tank, spilling fuel everywhere.
A new rear section, tank and battery and he was good to go....
He was very lucky!
Roy,
It's custom made for the Elan and holds 30 litres (around 7 UK gallons) Spyder can sell you one as they now get them made. The +2 tank is too large to fit and in any case would need to be fitted back to front due to the fuel filler being on the opposite side on a +2.
Kindest regards

Every little helps...
I think the tanks were subjected to the normal rear end crashes of the day and had to accept a fair 'crumple' to pass. Esp' in the good old US of A ....
Good result though Alan... I think I have as much room as you if not more by keeping the backboard where it was and having all of the wheel well to fill. I have not managed to fill it all with my 'carryouts' yet.. We had a fair stash of stuff with us too when we went off for the two weeks hol's and LeMans trip etc.. fortunately I did not need to lift the floorboard... I am really worried now....
I fitted the electric pump in the wheel well (Front) too. That does work well.
Good options all round I guess. Well done.
Happy days.. Stay safe please guys.
Alex.
How many Burgers does your engine produce?

There were no Federal vehicle safety standards until 1970. NHTSA was officially established in 1970 by the Highway Safety Act of 1970. The 1958 UNECE had internationally harmonized vehicle safety standards in place at the time.
