I bought mine from the Norfolk Motor Company around 1987..I think they were cheaper than CN :-)

Bought my Elan in 1984 with an original Lotus chassis by then the uprights were rusted through. The Lotus chassis lasted 11 years. I welded a patch on and that lasted till 1985 when I fitted a Spyder Space frame. )(cost in 85 ?700 ) That lasted till 2001, 16 years and again rotten though. It was replaced with a Lotus Galvanised chassis (cost in 2001 ?1200) This one shows no sign of rust at 16 years. The car was used mostly in the winters up till 2001 but only summer use since. Noticed no difference in the handling with any of them.

The previous owner of my '69 +2 bought it in 1980. He said after 2 weeks of ownership he was driving down the motorway and noticed a wobble. Parked it in his drive, when he came back out the front right had completely collapsed. How lucky was that. He replaced the chassis, but I'm guessing that wasn't galvanized because some years later he had to replace it again, this time with a Spyder chassis.

Looks like the galvanised chassis in my car was bought from CN in 1991 for ?881 + VAT. Still in excellent condition. Was this after the poor quality distorted Lotus supplied replacements ?
