Ensure you pack the chassis to body joint, with the appropriate penny washers, to ensure the bonnet clears the Cam cover, when shut.
Slight disaster when you've drilled all the new fixing holes! ( that's if you've replaced the chassis on the re-build.)
Regards,
Philip.

Put a heat shield over the engine mount on the exhaust side and add an engine to chassis earth strap
Put the exhaust manifold in place
Adjust the handbrake - decide if you want adjustable rods
If fitting a new handbrake cable check it is the correct length
Make sure you can select all gears
Confirm that you have used sealant on the gearbox to bell bousing bolts
Fit a diff brace if you want one
Check the wheel to ARB clearance

A few items. Apologize if repeats. Some need checking for Elan rather than Plus 2...
Not sure of details regarding hand brake cable attachment on the Elan, but on my Plus 2 it would be very easy for it to become detached from the arm at the rear without correct tension on it. Another lister posted on this issue, and had to lift the body to re-thread the cable. Solution is to make sure you have a long string tied to the cable at the rear in case it gets pulled forward by mistake.
Consider heat insulation on lower firewall and below pedal box. The headers produce a lot of heat. Pretty difficult to add later. I ceramic coated the headers as well, but that is a personal preference.
Not sure if mentioned already, but I believe the Elan heater valve will foul the body; my Plus 2 does not have this issue so check out with others to be sure.
Recommend reviewing all of the firewall holes and consider sealing the one's you don't need. If you have firewall holes for self tapping screws for mounting stuff (hose clamps, components ,etc.) check they are not too stripped out to work well. If you need better holes, consider installing Riv-Nuts to accept regular screws. It is hard to gain access with the Riv-Nut tool when the body is back on the car and engine in place.
Are your light pods mounted, aligned and working OK? Way easier to access on the body alone standing in the engine bay.
Engine bay loom in place and tied down? Easier now as well.
Not sure how it works on the Elan, but Plus 2 uses bolts in the trunk for main ground. Consider moving main ground to the rear tower mounting bolt that is tapped in frame. Much more secure and out of the muck.
