Elan S3 chassis on an S4 Elan Body

PostPost by: loueelotus » Wed May 10, 2017 2:41 am

Hi,

Quick question: I was wondering if a series 1,2,3 chassis will fit a Series 4 Elan shell?

Thanks,
Lou

The later S4 chassis (which is all that is supplied new these days) fits all bodies from S1. The key dimensional difference in the later chassis is a increased negative camber angle on the front suspension to suit the change to radial tyres.

Similarly an original early chassis will fit an S4 body shell but you will end up with a slightly positive front camber at standard ride height if its a truly original chassis.

Not sure when the change in front camber occurred but it was during the S3 run.

Here's a chassis being polished at Spyder today!

Fits all versions

Note the square vacuum tank, previously used to be tubular for Spyder folded metal chassis, nothing to do with patent or copyright, just easier to make. Now customers demand originality, so Spyder make the folded metal chassis with 2 pack paint low baked, guaranteed 8 years for corrosion, mines lasted 10 years and still looks new
Kindest regards

Rohan, wasn't it caster/castor rather than camber?
