Hi Folks,
The restoration of my 67 S3SE dhc is moving along nicely and now my attention turns to the chassis side of things. I have a galvanized Lotus replacement and I'd like to paint it in the original colour. I've talked to a few people and have been told that they were grey, red oxide, black or pink......ok pink was not mentioned! Does anyone know what colour the S3 chassis was painted? I'd be grateful for your replies!
Cheers
Ross

I'm pretty sure that under several different later colours, mine was originally red, and red oxide probably.

Mine had never been off the chassis and what was left of the paint was red oxide lotus-elan-f19/australia-now-has-one-more-elan-t21042-15.html

Hi Ross
It was a marine grade RED Lead which I believe is banned due to the lead....derrr...
Eastwood Paints out of the US sell a pressure pack in a similar colour.

Thanks for the info/pics folks. I actually paint cars as my semi-retirement job and I'm thinking of painting it ina 2 pack red with matting agent added. The chassis has sufficient furring to allow etch primer to adhere so it should paint ok without peeling!
Cheers
