Chassis Frame paint colour

Does anyone know if any major Lotus specialist used light blue metallic paint on chassi frames? Mine has such a colour, and I'm pretty sure Lotus never did that.

Not likely, red oxide color seems to be the consensus but perhaps being able to buy any color body would suggest you could tell the factory what frame color you wanted. Gordon Sauer

May have been re-painted on a chassis replacement. The early replacements were not zinced, so good paint was needed.
I put something like 6 coats of gold/bronze Hammerite on mine back in 1978.

Whats wrong with plain old glossy black... looks good on any chassis,
but I guess if you want to put your car in a concourse to show your
car off, you can do what the hot rod show & shine boys do and put
a mirror under neath to show all of the pretty metal work.

Red oxide was the factory color. Rustoleum red oxide primer is nearly a perfect match. Was the front of the diff the same color? I think it was but at my age I'm not even sure I can spell my name correctly.

I don't know much about the history of my S3, apart from it's having been originally a UK car, imported to the US in 1986.
I'm sure the body has been off at some time because of the chassis paint (which might indeed be Hammerite), and I just wondered if it were any indication of why might have done it.
It also has a few other non-standard things, like a 6-bolt crank in an early block, a shaved head, big valves, Vegantune VJ5 cams, and Dellortos. Someone had done a lot of work, it would be interesting to know who.

Similar sort of things were done to my car on a total refurb back in 1983 by Vegantune of Spalding.
Alas they don't exist anymore.

Hammerite is a paint designed to interact with any rust and stabalize it.
It comes in many colours including black and with either smooth or 'hammered' finish.

Its original UK Reg. No was GTB 740F. It was originally green according to the V5 I have; it's now yellow.
TB was, if my memory of living on Merseyside back in the 60s and 70s is correct, a Liverpool registration. The car was exported from Cornwall, though. It was owned by Alistair Crook at the time - ring any bells?

TB was Warrington, more accurately.
GTB 740F first registered 13th Oct 67. Has been un-taxed since 1st Jan 86 and listed as 'Green' then.
