Spyder Chassis S/N's

I was thinking of asking Spyder if they have any info on my chassis s/n. Has anyone ever asked them or maybe they don't keep records. I was interested in when it was made and if they had any info on when it was installed in my chassis.
I don't want to bother them with trivial stuff, as I'm sure they have better things to do.
FYI, my s/n is SPY0808. Not sure when they first started making them.

They do keep records and will be able to tell you approx when it was made. I bought a new old stock chassis a few years ago and contacted them with a view to finding out when it was made. They were able to tell me what year it was produced. Speak to Sean, or email, decent guy.

Hi
They told me mine was early 80's but could not or would not tell me any more. To be honest I have only contacted them on a few occasions and they just wanted to sell me new items rather than give advice on old parts. I suppose that's their business but not very helpful.

Hi
I have had ( July 2010) my +2 chassis cleaned up and repaired by Spyder. They do have basic records and can usually give an indication as to the year of manufacture. My chassis is SPY 1464 and was built in 1990/1 era. The number was on a small plate welded onto the top of the front chassis member that serves as the vacuum reservoir for the headlamps. If the numbering is sequential then yours looks 2 B a older unit.
Hope this helps
Best of luck
Bob

That sounds about right Bob. Spyder never differentiated chassis nos for Elans and +2s, the nos for both chassis just went in series, so your 800 no. Russ is a very early days one, probably around 1985, when Vic Moore was at the helm. I take it, that its a stressed skin chassis, and not a spaceframe?

Actually it's a space frame. From what I understand, 2 owners before me had the chassis installed at Spyder. He bought the car in May of '83 and moved the car to British Colombia, Canada in May of '85. So the chassis must be in 'late '83- early '85 time frame.

And mine was SPY1449. IIRC I purchased it @1988, but I sent all the records to the new owner so I can't check.
