S2 Windshield frame to body seal

Gents
After two new seals and much fiddling, I am still not happy. It seems the seals I bought (twice) are too "flimsy". I now regret removing the frame for paint. The windshield was left in the frame, which is not likely the order of assembly, but I do not believe that was the source of my grief.
Has anyone else felt my pain and what was the remedy? Is there a preferred seal?

It's been so long since I went through that drill that I'm not sure how much help I can be, but here goes.
When I got my Elan (at auction, from an insurance company that had declared it a total loss after pricing new front and rear clips),the windshield frame was broken from a rollover (stout roll bar, though) and had to be replaced. As I recall, the passenger (right side) door was whole, but the driver's door was badly crunched. I replaced the frame and adjusted it to fit the surviving window channel before installing the glass.
All of this leads me to think that you may need to remove the glass from the (rather flexible) windshield frame, do the necessary adjustments, then reinstall the glass. I can't explain why yours won't go back the way it once was, but that's part of the wonderment of Loti.
I'm sure this is no consolation, but it's the best I can do.

I had the same impression about a new seal from Miles Wilkins:
it is much softer than the original stuff, which is more semi-soft vinyl and not rubber type as supplied.
The new one, though moulded in original shape, does not want to keep its shape nor return to it by hanging straight or laying down flat. I'll fit the original back to the car.
