+2 Girling Brake Servo

Time for an overhaul on my +2's original Girling 2b Brake servo so looking for recommendations on the way forward please and who to get to do it.
1. Just get a kit and do it myself and hope all comes good ?
2. I have spoken to Classicar in Macclesfield who I see some have used but they do not resleeve the bores, they just refurbish the casing and fit a seal kit, however my thoughts are that after 50years of wear stainless liners would maybe be the right way to go?
3. What alternative recommended companies are out there who do sleeve the bores?
4. Alternatively I suppose I could reluctantly go the more cost effective route and fit a non-original looking Lockheed replacement?

Thoughts appreciated on what others have done please?

I had my servo rebuilt by these people about 10 years ago, car has not been used a great deal since but it's still working fine.

No personal experience of this company but they do resleeving, including remote servos .....

Thats a couple of companies who re-sleeve to try that I haven't heard of before.

I had the same dilemma and decided to delete my servo in my +2S130/5. That way I was also able to switch to a tandem master cylinder from Caterham with 0.625" bore so now have non-assisted but dual circuit brakes. Simplify then add lightness? Not everyone I know, but works for me.

Well after talking to various vendors I have sent it off to Past Parts in Bury St Edmunds. Their explanation of their reconditioning process I thought seemed to be what I was looking for.
They are going to do a re-sleeve of the bores with stainless steel liners, seal size back to original spec, and a full recondition of the unit generally, Powder coated canister etc. They have quoted me £220+vat with a time frame of 3-4weeks.

I will keep you all posted when I get it back from them and if I can recommend.

Dear Alan,
The same booster on my early Plus 2 was giving trouble.
I was told that a parts kit would not include the bit causing the problem!
After making many enquiries I contacted a man called Terry Morgan of Hydroboost at Echuca in Victoria, Australia.
He was a wealth of knowledge.
He knew exactly the specifications required for a replacement, prepared it and sent it to me on time.
It fitted and has exactly the correct proportion of assistance.

I bought most of the parts to recondition mine from Paul Matty, but by the time I added in new air filters and air valves from Harmon Classic Brakes (I’m in the US) I spent more to rebuild the servos myself (without resleaving) than you are going to pay. £220 is a great price to pay to have them reconditioned, assuming they do a good job.

Alan,

Past Parts did a superb job on rebuilding the Girling 2b for my Sprint, the stainless resleeving is what convinced me, it performs like new, I'd highly recommend them.

I have not had success with rebuild kits - they just don't last on these old units.

Well if mine looks as good as that when it comes back from Past Parts I will be a happy bunny!
Like you my reasoning was that after 50years, re-sleeving was definitely the way to go .
