Front Calipers

PostPost by: William2 » Fri Jan 17, 2014 4:31 pm

I have recently purchased a pair of brand new Elan Sprint front brake calipers off Ebay from a classic car parts trader. Having received them today they look fine but have no manufacturer stamped on them, Girling or otherwise. I also noticed that the metal rings that hold the protective caliper rubber seal in place do have a bit of a tendency to slip off with the seal. I am a bit surprised that the caliper housing doesn't have a slot milled in it to help the retaining ring stay in position. Are all the calipers designed like this? Also, has anyone else bought non-Girling calipers and fitted them without any problems?

No groove on the Girling calliper I have in my hand.

Send them back.

Get a second hand pair and have them rebuilt by Classicar automotive for the same price. I don't mind cheap light fittings, but Indian brakes ... I ain't playing!
