Orientation of Handbrake warning switch?

Gradually fettling the issues on my car.... made it to the Handbrake warning light!

The handbrake warning switch is/was missing on my car. I have sourced a Lucas SMB479/31893 switch, but it looks like the boss for the switch is on the left hand side of the handle (9 'clock) as opposed to underneath (6 O'Clock) as shown in this photo stolen from another posting:

I'm concerned that in the 9 O'Clock position the switch might hit the pedals, is it possible for a DPO to put the hand brake handle assembly back together incorrectly which has re-oriented the switch position?

Hi Phil,
Your switch is fitted the same way down as mine. Although my one is turned 90 degrees to line up with the pedal box shaft.
I don't think you can turn the shaft any other way as the fixing bracket attaches to the footwell

Here is my new switch installed:

My initial concern was that the clutch pedal would hit it, but there is about 1/2" clearance.

Handbrake actually works as well now!!
