Pedals and handbrake

PostPost by: rodlittle » Sat Jun 11, 2011 3:11 pm

Yet more questions !!
The picture in the manual for S1 shows the pedal mounting bracket to have an upturned end which is bolted through the firewall My pedal bracket however doesnt have this upturned end it just bolts up to the master cylinders and there is one bolt down at an angle through the end of the long bracket extending towards the dash see the picture
Pedal bracket.jpg and
Does anyone know if the pedal bracket changed during production and if so which version do I have, early or late?

This all relates to my S1 unit no 3067
Wiring progress.jpg and

Now to the handbrake, the manual shows only one mounting bracket on the handbrake, mine has two. I suspect this is not an original but would like confirmation if anyone knows, also if the handbrake I have is mounted in the holes that exist the end of the handbrake operating mechanism will poke through the firewall, I would have thought that only the cable itself should be through the firewall again any help appreciated

Hi Rod

See the topic on handbrakes

elan-f14/elan-handbrakes-lhd-and-rhd-t22931.html

p.s. - are your heater hoses in yet, if not it may be time and get them installed. I use a meter for each hose and cut to length after the engine is in.

Hi piss-ant
Thanks
Well that answers my question on the handbrake, obviously one mounting bracket is correct. I shall have to cut mine off and reweld one in the right place.
Still leaves the question about whether it pokes through the firewall though, any idea?
No heater hoses arent in yet but will be soon , Im nowhere near fitting the dash as I need a new one, so plenty of time yet
cheers

Hi Rod,
Yes it does - the cylindrical outer cable abutment bit on the end of the ratchet tube passes through a grommet in the bulkhead with about 10mm showing in the engine compartment.

Hi Paddy
That sounds a really interesting offer, thanks I would love to see another one the age of mine.
So your pedal bracket is the same as mine then? I was sure mine hadnt been modifed but couldnt find any evidence. Sods law though yesterday I welded an end piece onto mine so that it looked like the others!!

Where abouts are you and when would it be convenient for me to come and look at yours?
Cheers
